Volunteer Opportunities
Without our generous volunteers, Grass River would not exist as we
know it today. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities at Grass
River covering many interests including the following.
EDUCATION
- School classes visit GRNA for our Wetlands Curriculum classes in
May and October. Volunteers serve as “class aides” for the
naturalists.
- Be a “Botanizer.” Work with a naturalist to
catalogue and label plants in the natural area. Weekly –
May through September
- Nature Nuts & Explorers and Family Classes. Assist the
naturalists in July and August with nature education and art classes.
- Educational Outreach Events: Autumn Fest, Winterfest, and
Earth Day are held in October, January, and April respectively.
Volunteers participate in planning and executing events.
- Teach a class. Share your expertise in art or
nature-related areas.
SPECIAL EVENTS/FUNDRAISING/COMMITTEE WORK
- Fundraising: Volunteers work on planning and staffing events.
- Help us formulate development plans by working on the Development
Committee.
- Join our Stewardship Committee to execute plans for maintaining
the natural area.
- Assist the Grant Writing Committee with fund sources research and
grant writing.
CLERICAL/OFFICE
- Volunteers help with mailings and other clerical functions on an
as-needed basis throughout the year.
DOCENT
- Cabin Assistant. Volunteer at the interpretive cabin.
Greet visitors, handle bookstore sales.
- Trail Guide. Lead nature walks on GRNA trails
- May through September
SITE MAINTENANCE
- Annual spring cleanup, first Saturday in May.
- Trail maintenance. Prune trees and shrubs, cut sedge along
boardwalk trails.
- Repair work on cabin and boardwalk trails, other special projects
as needed.
- May through October
